Jingjiang is the biggest base for watercraft of domestic enterprises in China. It is the base for watercraft and related industry, which takes the lead in developing the road of intensivism, and owns both strong international competitive power and excellent operating circumstance. Watercraft industry is one of the backbone industries of local industrial economy, as well as the most important export industry within Mechanical & Electrical industry in Jingjiang city, which is recognized as the export base for watercraft in Jiangsu Province.

In 2007, the quantity for completing the shipbuilding of six dockyards in the export base reached 2,500,000 dons, and the value for export goods and self-supporting export achieved 8,270,000,000 and 740,000,000 respectively, which created a new peak again in the history. At the same time, several enterprises dealing in shipbuilding industry appearing, such as New Century Shipbuilding, New Yangzi Shipbuilding etc. It is expected that the quantity for completing the shipbuilding will reach 8,000,000 dons, and the production value will achieve 80,000,000,000 in 2008.
